BANNED FOREVER!
Four days after being found guilty of committing his second doping violation in seven years, sprinter Steve Mullings has been banned for life from all sports by the Jamaica Anti-Doping Commission (JADCO) disciplinary panel, which yesterday accepted the recommendation of JADCO attorney Lackston Robinson who said Mullings was now guilty of two standard violations. Steve Mullings’ lawyer Alando Terrelonge said that he does not expect a life ban to be imposed on the 28-year-old sprinter when the Anti-Doping disciplinary panel convenes 2:00 pm tomorrow at the Jamaica Conference Centre. Read more>>

Usain Bolt is IAAF Athlete of the Year
Double World Record holder Usain Bolt earlier today won his third International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) male Athlete of the Year award in Monaco. The announcement was made in a release from the IAAF with Australian hurdlers Sally Pearson winning the female equivalent. Read more>>

Tributes to Howard Aris …RIP
Veronica Campbell-Brown, Jamaica’s sprint queen, tweeted “my heart leaps with sadness! I can’t believe Mr. Aris is gone! My prayers and condolences goes out to his family! May God bless his soul!”
Olympic sprint double silver medalist, Juliet Cuthbert , commented on facebook: “Howard some said you had a special place in ur heart for me. In 1979 you gave me my first pair of Puma spikes I have never forgotten that. You understood me as some scoffed at me. You had a genuine love for track and field. Mr. Aris I will miss passing you in the VIP section and touching ur shoulder. May you rest now.” Read more>>

18 Jamaicans in 100m world ranking
With the World Indoor Championships, World Junior Championships and the Olympic Games set for next year, 18 Jamaicans have earned their places in the ranks of the world’s 100 fastest men for 2011. The list, which focuses on the 100m in the outdoor season, has Usain Bolt (9.76sec), Asafa Powell (9.78sec), American Tyson Gay (9.79sec), Steve Mullings (9.80sec) and Yohan Blake (9.82sec) in the top five. The reason appearance fees are so important
Appearance fees are payments made to an athlete for showing up. They can get more complex, which is why agents are usually involved in the negotiations, but the motivations are pretty simple: The athlete wants to know their work hasn’t gone to waste if they have a poor race, and the race wants to motivate the athlete to run their race instead of another one with a better offer. Dexter Lee for SWEPT Track Club in Kingston
IAAF World Championships relay gold medallist Dexter Lee has parted ways with his long-time coach Claude Grant and will join the Okele Stewart-coached SWEPT Track Club in Kingston.
Lee, who has a personal best of 10.06 seconds in the 100m, confirmed the move with the Observer late yesterday, but would not go into any details. Read more>>
