Asafa OUT ! Sprinter not selected for World Indoors
The Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) yesterday announced a team of 11 athletes and five officials for next month’s IAAF World Indoor Championships in Athletics in Istanbul, Turkey. There is no space in the squad for former 100m world record holder, Asafa Powell, among the four male athletes who were listed, while sprint queen Veronica Campbell-Brown will get a shot to defend her 60m crown, won two years ago in Doha. Powell vs. Bolt in Rome
Jamaican sprinting royalty will be on show in the Eternal City, after former 100m world record holder Asafa Powell booked an early season clash against double Olympic champion and world record holder Usain Bolt at this year’s Golden Gala IAAF/Samsung Diamond League meet in Rome, Italy. Read more>>

Bolt to participate in Sigma Corporate run
OLYMPIC gold medallist and world sprint champion Usain Bolt is scheduled to participate in this year’s PanCaribbean Sigma Corporate Run scheduled for this Sunday in Kingston.
The 100m and 200m world record holder, who is a patron of the event, is expected to walk the distance in order not to risk the possibility of injury, the Observer has learnt. Read more>>

Watching Usain Bolt in 100m final not high priority for Games’ greats
But talk to the Olympic greats, many in town this week for the Laureus World Sports Awards, and it’s surprising to find what Olympic events tick their box. When the question was asked of Nadia Comaneci, Mark Spitz, Daley Thompson and Edwin Moses – 19 Olympic gold medals and 58 World Championship titles between them – the Bolt race was raised only as a potential highlight, behind the men’s triathlon, fencing and Michael Phelps’ appearance in the pool. Asafa Powell targets success in 2012
Having to deal with repeated disappointment and public doubt concerning his mental toughness, Jamaican sprinter Asafa Powell has had to endure a lot in his chequered career; but perhaps there is still time for his reconciliation with sprinting supremacy.
It has been over three years since he has entered a major championship as a favourite and his 9.77 and 9.74 seconds 100m world-record marks have long been eclipsed by a certain Usain Bolt. Read more>>
