Miller Reflects After Smashing National Junior Shot Put Record – ‘I Believe I Could Have Gone Over 19.47m’
Buoyed by the earlier record-breaking effort of his Calabar High schoolmate and friend, Traves Smikle – who broke the Under-20 discus record last Friday – Ashinia Miller decimated the boys’ Under-20 shot put record to set Jamaica on their way on yesterday’s final day of the LIME Carifta Games at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Interestingly, it was not only the previous Carifta record of 18.67 metres – which was set by Trinidad & Tobago’s Quincy Wilson in 2010 – that Miller smashed with his impressive throw of 19.47m, but he also established a new national junior record in the process. Read more

It’s Miller time! – Shot putter shatters own record at CARIFTA Games
CATHERINE HALL, St James — After what he described as a “horrible start to the season”, Jamaica’s Ashinia Miller got it spot on yesterday as he smashed his own National Junior Record in the shot put when he won the boys’ Under-20 gold medal in the first session of the final day of the 40th Lime CARIFTA Games at the Montego Bay Sports Complex.
Miller, who will turn 18 years old in June, had thrown 19.19m in February to set the previous NJR but got his technique and power as he smashed the event record of 18.67m held by Trinidad’s Quincy Wilson set last year in Cayman when the Jamaican took the silver. Read more >>

CATHERINE HALL, St James — Belize was unlikely to win a medal or even feature in any finals at the just-concluded 40th LIME CARIFTA Games here at the Montego Bay Sports Complex, but for its lone representative 17-year-old Tishele Solis, the championships will be a great memory for her over the disappointments of her performances.
Initially Belize, located geographically in Central America, would have been the only member of the 26-member CARIFTA group not to be represented at the three-day meet, but news came on Friday, the day before the start of the event, that one athlete had showed up. Read more >>
