Before you fretfully change your travel plans or use the almighty Google to see what this animal looks like, let me lower your pressure by stating that this headline is directed to describe one of the great sons of Jamaica, Dr. Lennox Westney.
Last Saturday evening, I had the privilege to attend a book signing of this lion of a man.
Dr. Lennox Westney MD.
I first met Dr. Lennox Westney and his wife, Dr. Ouida Westney during my college days at Howard University and within the church community where they championed the triple pillars of success namely, education excellence ,temperate health lifestyle, and Godly family life.
Now in the golden era of their lives, they have taken the time to still contribute to enriching our lives by recording his life’s journey through this astounding autobiography.
The great essayist, Emerson shared this insightful observation that captures the essence of this life observed on paper.
“Character is higher than intellect… A great soul will be strong to live, as well as to think.”
The promise of this book, as captured in its subtitle, a story of surmounting and serving is supremely met. Stout character, enduring perseverance, self discipline, while applying a precise scalpel of no nonsense rejection of mediocrity and defeatism are given a strong human embodiment in 255 pages. The recognition of God’s plan for his life, and confidence in God’s abiding presence through it all is very evident.
This book engagingly captures his journey from humble beginnings in Jamaica to a position of being an acknowledged world leader in obstetrics, and gynecology. It is well organized six life segments, namely:
- Family & socio-cultural heritage
- Education & life events
- Medical training including post grad training
- Professional life
- Contribution to the community & personal challenges
The typical male’s ego face the challenge of being real with his vulnerabilities. The transparency in which he shares his personal medical challenges from ulcers, prostate cancer, and Parkinson’s disease provide a game changing attitude.
His deep reflection here drenched in gratitude will give men everywhere lots to ponder.
