PHILADELPHIA, USA — The Jamaican senior athletes will defend two titles today in the USA vs The World series at the Penn Relays at Franklin Field.
Led by Usain Bolt last year, the Jamaica ‘gold team’ established an event record 37.90 seconds in the men’s 4x100m then won their third straight women’s Sprint Medley Relay.
The Jamaicans are entered in five events today — both 4x100m races, the SMR, and both 4x400m races.
Up to yesterday when details were announced at a prees conference, the make-up of the Jamaican teams had not been disclosed, but a squad was released by the organisers earlier in the week.
Bolt, who was a major draw last year when over 54,000 paying fans turned out, will be absent this year but the Jamaican men sprint squad should include four who have run on the World Championships and Olympic relay teams in Michael Frater, Nester Carter, Asafa Powell and Steve Mullings as well as Commonwealth Games 100m champion Lerone Clarke.
