Despite failing to match last year’s total of 11 overall wins at recently concluded Penn Relays, the Jamaicans still did themselves proud in the high schools category as this time around, they left with 10 victories, which included five for the males and five for the females.
In addition to these wins, there was a bonus for Jamaica as two athletes walked away with MVP individual titles.
Undoubtedly, the best team from Jamaica was the Michael Dyke-coached Edwin Allen High. After failing to win the Boys and Girls’ Championships female title several weeks ago, there was some consolation for them at Penns as they left the carnival with four championships title. Among them were three individual and also a MVP individual award. The quartet of Desreen Montigue, Marleen Eubanks, Carla Thompson and Ristananna Tracey came close to breaking one of the oldest high school records at the meet in the 4×800 metres.
