On this day in Jamaican History – On June 27th, 1935 Byron Lee OD, leader of Byron Lee and the Dragonaires , was born in Christiana, Manchester. Byron Lee and the Dragonaires became one of Jamaica’s leading bands. Lee was musician, record producer, and entrepreneur. Lee produced many of the early ska singles by The Maytals, and his entrepreneurial skills led to him setting up the Byron Lee’s Spectacular Show touring the Caribbean. He passed away on November 4th, 2008.

  • Your suggestions to the President in the above blog are right on! I was born into a very poor family in Nova Scotia, Canada. I may very well have remained in that situation had not our Government provided a way out. After graduating from highschool I was able to enroll in a college, where they not only taught me a profession, but they paid me to attend! Therefore, I became a taxpayer instead of a taxtaker for the past many years. It worked for me, and many others.

  • You are right, George. They will flay him anyway. So, why not. I’d like to see him give a boot up to mothers who would like to go back to school. The government could offer them a living wage to pay for child care, housing, food, and other expenses while they train for a profession. As Faye said, with this short-term government assistance, they become long-term taxpayers, not tax takers. Canada did it right years ago, and here we are still just talking about it.
