On this day in Jamaican History: On December 2nd, 1893 Cicely Williams Jamaican physician was born Westmoreland, Jamaica. Dr. Cicely Williams was most notable for her discovery and research into kwashiorkor, a condition of advanced malnutrition. In Jamaica it is referred to “bang belly”. She was advocate for breastfeeding, birth control and the development of maternal health services.
