On this day in Jamaican history: September 7, 1919, Jamaican icon, Louise Simone Bennett-Coverley or Miss Lou, OM, OJ, MBE. Miss Lou was a Jamaican folklorist, artiste and writer. She was important in bringing Jamaican patois to the forefront of Jamaican society. She influenced many Jamaican writers, actors and performers. She passed away on 26 July 2006. Happy Birthday and thank you Miss Lou.
