On this day in Jamaican History: On August 1st, 1914 Jamaican national hero, Marcus Garvey founded the Universal Negro Improvement Association (UNIA) as a means of uniting all of Africa and its diaspora into “one grand racial hierarchy.

  • I know, or rather I think I know, just what you mean. My wife Faye, was in that same position in her last “job”. She loved it to the extent of turning down a chance of a promotion and grieved for years after she retired so that a much younger coleague could keep his job. I, on the other hand had passed ‘burn out’,was into ‘meltdown’ and quite happy just to play golf, and putter around the house.   • Great story. Some of my tech writing gigs were similar but never anything like journalism. Working to a daily deadline – having to get it right the first time – we didn’t have much of that (but when we did actually enjoyed it in a perverse sort of way). See you next week.
