On this day in Jamaican History: One August 17th, 1887 Marcus Mosiah Garvey, was born in St. Ann’s Bay, St. Ann, Jamaica. He was a Jamaican publisher, journalist, entrepreneur, and orator who was a staunch advocate of the Black Nationalism and Pan-Africanism movements. He became Jamaica’s first National Hero.
