There is an interesting story in the Miami Herald today titled “Cuban tourism surges as rest of Caribbean stalls“. I have followed the Cuba tourism story for a while as it relates directly to Jamaica. As Cuba gains Jamaica loses. We have been somewhat “lucky” because Jamaica is used as a stopover point by many who travel Air Jamaica to Cuba using visa cards that are not traceable. That is income to Jamaica. Everyone is predicting that Obama will be lifting travel restrictions…this will hurt Jamaica. We will lose the stopover and probably quiet a few tourists. I wonder if the CARICOM leaders who are in Cuba this week are trying to make some deals…
