This day in Jamaican History – On March 24, 1916, Marcus Garvey landed in Harlem, New York. Almost penniless, he moved in with a Jamaican family in Harlem, found a job as a printer and began speaking in public about the UNIA and his ideals. Later he toured 38 states promoting his new organization and its plans to create an institution in Jamaica , modeled on Tuskegee Institute.
