Why are the media so hesitant to expose Herman Cain’s real backers? I Googled and Googled and came up with almost nothing in the news today about that illegal $40,000 the Cain campaign is accused of accepting.
Here’s one report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain said Monday that he was unaware that a private Wisconsin-based corporation may have spent as much as $40,000 on travel and other expenses to help his campaign get off the ground earlier this year.
Speaking to Fox News, Cain said:
“I’m not aware of this report, so my staff has not had time to go through it. So I’m not aware of it; they’re not aware of it. We’re going to look at the report to see if there is any validity. So at this point, I can’t say there will be any modification (of campaign finance reports) because we don’t know at this point whether or not it’s true or not.”
Cain added: “We will take a look at it. But at this point, I didn’t even know about the report until you brought it up on the show.”
Yes, and he didn’t know about the sexual harassment lawsuits either. He is such a shameless liar!
I don’t watch Fox News so I don’t know whether the interviewer mentioned that the “private Wisconsin-based corporation” that coughed up the contribution is Prosperity USA, a not-for-profit group founded by Cain’s chief of staff, Mark Block, and his deputy chief of staff, Linda Hansen. But I’ll bet the interviewer did not. I know that much about Fox News! (Besides, I saw a clip on the Ed Show in which Bill O’Reilley tore a strip off some hapless Fox flunky for suggesting the Koch brothers have anything to do with funding the Tea Party. Is that hilarious or what?)
Does the name Prosperity USA sound familiar to you?
“Prosperity” – that’s the word the infamous Koch brothers like to abuse in naming their propaganda organizations.
Remember Americans For Prosperity, the advocacy group founded with cash from billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, which lobbies for lower taxes and less government regulation and spending? You might have read my earlier blog in which I quoted an Associated Press story by Ryan J. Foley, revealing that Cain’s campaign manager and a number of aides worked for AFP.
Click here to refresh your memory.
In other words, the $40,000 (in goods and services) Cain got to kick off his campaign came – indirectly of course – from Charles and David Koch.
Why haven’t the media made more of Cain’s Koch connection?
Why do they persist in describing him as some kind of apolitical pizza tycoon when he has fronted for the Kochs for years?
You might remember this excerpt from Foley’s piece:
AFP tapped Cain as the public face of its “Prosperity Expansion Project,” and he traveled the country in 2005 and 2006 speaking to activists who were starting state-based AFP chapters from Wisconsin to Virginia.
Cain will likely get his just desserts; I bet those sexual harassment charges are just the beginning.
If there’s any justice, his absurd mask will be ripped away.
But it’s taking far too long. The man is a fraud, and – by dragging their feet in exposing him – the media are helping him to hoodwink the American public.
